Art @ Turku Cathedral

I have been in several cathedrals both in Europe and back in the States, but the Turku Cathedral was like none I had ever seen before. First we noticed that Turku Cathedral is a lot smaller than most, and it’s in the middle of a neighborhood which seemed a bit strange to us. Second, the cathedral was full of art. It did have the tombs and stained glass windows, but there were several pieces of modern art mixed in amongst the antiquated relics. The last thing that struck us as odd was that there were preparations going on around the alter for a ballet performance that was to take place later that evening. I don’t know about you, but I don’t typically associate a ballet with a cathedral. Nevertheless, It was a beautiful building and I always love seeing how people express themselves to a higher power; it’s inspiring and thought-provoking.

This was one of my favorite pieces in the cathedral and it’s definitely my favorite interpretation of The Last Supper
